Here’s how it works.

Your personal accent instructor and coach, certified speech pathologist Joe Comeau, provides a guided course in Accent Modification.
(also called Accent Reduction, Accent Neutralization, or Pronunciation and Elocution Classes… call it any of those – the results are the same.)

This 1 Full-Day or 2 Half-Day course is delivered on-site for your convenience. No time away from your office. No travel for you or your team. No extra appointments. We’ll need about 6 hours to get you started on the path to communication improvement.

This interactive workshop learning experience has been designed to give participants maximum opportunities for applying and practicing new pronunciation strategies – the same strategies in the research-based approach used by all Capital Speech Consultants clients.

The Coaching Experience does not end there…

To eliminate the need for long-term commitment and reinforce the commitment to effective coaching and instruction, Joe will provide provide 1-on-1 training sessions to each participant for four weeks (one session each week) following the on-site course. These sessions focus exclusively on the specific challenges and interests of each individual. One 60-minute web-based conferencing session is provided for four weeks, for a total of 10 hours of training for everyone involved.

The research supporting the method on which Joe’s instructional coaching workshops are based (the Compton PESL method of accent modification) indicates the need for two essential components:
1) approximately 10 hours of direct instruction on specific speech production skills identified in personalized assessments, and
2) daily practice for maintenance of newly acquired speech skills – the learner’s responsibility.

Daily practice leads to significant improvement in a short period of time. The changes will be visible, audible and lasting. Actual study participants demonstrated the ability to maintain their level of improvement for as long as 5 years. Like every other CSC client, you’ll receive your own Before-and-After audio recording, documenting your change and improvement, and leaving no question about the measurable amount of pronunciation mastery you have achieved.

 

A hybrid of face-to-face on-site instruction and technology-enhanced training.

 

It’s the best of both worlds. A lively, engaging workshop/coaching experience complete with individualized teaching strategies and group/team tasks that keep everyone motivated and involved, plus private, personalized instruction provided using trusted and reliable web conferencing application.

The course moves quickly through the basics in a supportive environment and gets each participant completing speech, reading, business conversation and even presentation exercises using clear, accurate and compelling speech – making the native or home accent dramatically less distracting.

The participants will be using and reinforcing new, clear speech pronunciation styles within minutes of starting the training experience.

Results may vary, and the responsibility for improvement is always the contribution of each participant… but an increase in the clarity and accuracy of spoken American English communication of at least 50-75% is typical with minimum but consistent practice. The personal communication profile report and the audio Before-and-After recording of each participant will provide a clear record of the change and improvement.

The Immersion Experience begins before the Coach arrives.

Each participant will be invited to complete their own Initial Assessment – a personal and private profile that will provide the instructor with the information needed to begin designing the personalized instructional workshop and training sessions. Each participant uses a web-based Online Assessment application (requires a microphone). The training is designed around the results, and the results are delivered to the instructor immediately.

At the conclusion of the immersion training experience, each participant will repeat the assessment. Recordings from the Initial and Final Assessments will be used to compile a Before-and-After recording. The student is typically amazed at hearing the change that has taken place, and the recording serves as a valuable reminder and motivator for what is possible with practice. (The secret is knowing what to practice.)
